The Yellow Bus Foundation® (YBF) enriches the lives of children in Canada living with chronic illness and/or serious medical conditions as well as provides enriching opportunities for disadvantaged youth. 

The advantage of giving to The Yellow Bus Foundation is our unique approach to supporting Canadian children facing either life-threatening/chronic illness or those young people disadvantaged through no fault of their own. We support organizations with a budget generally under $2 million and focus on grassroots charities that take a hands-on approach to their work.

YBF Board members personally donate funds in excess of the administrative costs of The Yellow Bus Foundation, allowing 100% of funds you send to us to go to the charities we support.

Donations to YBF result in many types of assistance, from providing vital medical equipment for children with life-threatening illnesses, to fostering the emotional wellbeing of children facing tough socio-economic situations. We strive to help you, the donor, feel confident about making a charitable gift that reaches across boundaries and adds value to the lives of many Canadian children in need.

If your company is uncertain about which charities to support, the knowledge and experience of The Yellow Bus Foundation is invaluable in making these decisions. We become - if you will - your "stock picker". Our board is comprised of 8 volunteer Directors, each with extensive experience volunteering in the not-for-profit sector. Many of our Board Members are financial services executives, well versed in reviewing and evaluating the financial statements and operations of the charities we fund. 

Based on a thorough application process, including vetting financial statements, we hand-select each charity thereby diversifying your donor dollar. Your one gift makes a significant difference to 5 childrens' charities each year.

The Foundation makes grants on your behalf, manages the paperwork with beneficiaries and, because we are in regular communication with the charities we support, can provide financial statements and performance and activity reports if requested.  Giving through YBF relieves you of these administrative details; our commitment is to manage the processes, tasks and responsibilities associated with your charitable contributions.

Once funds are distributed we follow up with each charity and ask them to submit their reflections on how the development program contributed to the achievement and advancement of their organizational goals. This information forms an important part of YBF’s assessment of our program and future funding consideration of each organization.  To receive funding charities must communicate the area of significant need, potential and resulting benefit to their respective organization and at the same time broaden and deepen our donors’ understanding of and engagement in their communities.

In its first three years of operation, YBF has distributed over $800,000.  In December 2009, the Foundation distributed over $50,000 to each of the five children's charities of choice this year.
